A common question we get asked is whether dental implants hurt? As experts on dental implants, the team at Sydney Dental Aesthetics & Implants wanted to let you know what to expect.
Before the procedure
When we start talking about your dental implants, we start to plan how to make your best smile a reality. We take into careful consideration your wants, needs and concerns in order to create your personalised plan which minimises any discomfort while achieving your optimal smile. We can discuss sleep dentistry here as well if you feel that sleep dentistry would work best for you.
During the procedure
During the procedure, you should not expect any pain. We have different options for patients, including a local anaesthetic during the procedure, or we can even put you to sleep so you just wake up with a brand-new smile.
The procedure is usually fairly quick, only usually taking around one hour to complete. A dental implant involves cutting the gum to expose the jaw, to place the implant. You will usually feel some pressure at this point, but no pain. That’s if you are even awake!
Nervous about the procedure? Sleep right through it
Our own Dr Melissa Licenblat is an expert in sleep dentistry and is a principal dentist here at Sydney Dental Aesthetics & Implants. She has a warm, gentle nature and has many years of experience, with a Bachelor of Medical Science, a Bachelor of Dentistry and a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Conscious Sedation and Pain Control).
After the procedure
As it is a surgical procedure, healing is expected, and this is where some pain may exist. You will however, be taken care of by our wonderful team with instructions to minimise pain to the area.
You may experience slight bleeding and gum inflammation in the area, but the pain will be manageable. Any pain should be able to be taken care of by over-the-counter pain medication and should not last for more than a few days.
Our dentists will have an individualised after procedure plan for you so you can be safe and assured that your new smile will incur minimal pain so you can show off your new smile confidently.
