Our three most popular dental treatments at SDAI

dental treatments

Dental treatments cover a lot of ground, with everything from a basic check-up through to complete restoration.

Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as saying look after your teeth and you’ll be fine.

There are many different reasons why someone might need to visit us and these include illness, the effects of an assault, or the negative effects of medication on oral health.

But even with such a wide range of dental treatments available, there are some which are more common than others. We’ve listed the top three procedures we perform at our dental clinic, explaining what each one is and how it can help you.

Dental implants

Dental Implants are basically teeth replacements.

They are made to look and feel like natural teeth, and once the procedure is over, there are no follow up treatments, other than your regular dental check-ups.

Dental Implants have soared in popularity in recent years because of advancements in technology, making them easier to fit, cheaper to buy, and if they are looked after properly, they should last a lifetime.

With dental implants, you can eat pretty much whatever you want, giving them a superior advantage over dentures.

Because they are designed to look and feel real, they act like natural teeth, maintaining your natural jawline and improving your quality of life.

With the advantages of dental implants over old-school “false teeth” and the incredibly high customer satisfaction rates, it’s no surprise they are our most popular dental treatment.

CEREC restorations

CEREC – one visit ceramic restorations

CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. That’s a bit of a mouthful, so we tend to use the easier CEramic REConstruction.

To put it simply, CEREC is a way to design and model a false tooth on the computer, before sculpting it exactly in a machine to perfectly fit your mouth.

It’s used to build dental implant crowns, regular crowns, and veneers, and due to the advancements in 3D computer modelling in recent years, CEREC has become a very popular option in the dental industry.

The main advantage of CEREC restorations over traditional crowns and veneers is the speed at which the treatment happens.

We scan your tooth with a special camera, taking a 3-dimensional image of it. This image is then sent to a powerful computer, where we digitally create a crown which perfectly fits over your existing tooth.

Once the new crown is created on the computer, the design is sent to the milling unit, which sculpts the new tooth out of a block of porcelain ceramic, down to the finest detail.

All that’s left to do is place the new crown into your mouth, attaching it to your tooth and checking everything fits perfectly.

It sounds like a long and laborious process, but from start to finish, the CEREC restoration procedure only takes 60 -90 minutes!

With a new crown designed, created and implanted in the space of a long lunch break, it’s no wonder CEREC restorations are one of our most popular dental treatments.

Wisdom teeth removal

For most of us, when we hit our late teens, we grow another set of molars at the back of our mouths. These are called wisdom teeth because they arrive when we reach maturity and become adults.

The reason we grow these strange teeth so late in life is due to human evolution. At one point we had a period where our brains suddenly grew, and while this was great for discovering fire, it meant that our jaws became smaller, leaving less room for teeth.

Wisdom teeth are so problematic because when they eventually do come through, they have to push the existing teeth out of the way to make room for them.

This results in them going off course and pushing out through the side of the gums or even getting stuck underneath.

This can cause serious pain, and with the majority of people developing them, it’s no surprise that wisdom tooth removal is one of the most popular dental treatments around the world.
