Metal-free zirconia dental implants
Zirconia metal free implants are a metal-free implant option that has been used by practitioners internationally for several decades, including in the United States since 2007 and parts of Europe since the late 1980s. Dr Dean Licenblat provides zirconia implant treatment at Sydney Dental Aesthetics and Implants (SDAI) as part of his implant-related clinical practice.
Zirconia is a ceramic material considered biocompatible, and these implants are designed to support integration with surrounding bone. Suitability for zirconia implants varies between individuals and is assessed during a clinical consultation.
The function of Dental Implants
Dental implants may:
- Support the structure of the jaw in the area where a tooth is missing
- Assist with maintaining oral function
- Provide a fixed alternative to removable prostheses
- Form part of a treatment plan aimed at restoring function and appearance
- Help distribute biting forces when replacing missing teeth
Suitability varies between patients and is assessed during a consultation.
Dental Implant options available at Sydney Dental Aesthetics and Implants

All on 4
The All-on-4 dental implant system is a dental technique that can offer a solution to multiple missing teeth. The treatment involves supporting a full arch of teeth on four implants. This approach is designed to provide a fixed alternative to removable prostheses and may assist with function and appearance, depending on individual clinical circumstances. The procedure may be suitable for patients with missing, damaged or heavily restored teeth, following a clinical assessment.

Metal free zirconia implants
Zirconia implants or metal free dental implants are an alternative option for replacing missing teeth for patients who prefer a non-metal approach. This type of implant may be considered during treatment planning depending on individual clinical needs.
At Sydney Dental Aesthetics and Implants, we are experienced in Zirconia metal-free implants.

Titanium Dental implants
Titanium dental implants are a tooth replacement option for one or multiple missing teeth. Depending on individual clinical needs, implants may help support oral function and appearance as part of a broader treatment plan.
What are dental implants?
A natural tooth consists of a crown (the part above the gum) and the root (the part hidden under the gum within the jaw bone). The root is the portion which actually holds the natural tooth in place.
A dental implant is a small titanium component placed into the jawbone to act as a replacement for the root of a missing tooth.
Titanium is widely used in implant dentistry due to its long history of application in medical and dental fields. Dental implants are designed to integrate with surrounding bone over time, supporting a replacement tooth or teeth once healing has occurred.
There are many implant systems available, and Sydney Dental Aesthetics and Implants uses systems selected for their established clinical use and scientific literature. The suitability and expected outcomes of dental implants vary between individuals and are discussed as part of the consultation and treatment planning process.
Types of Dental Implants

3 Unit Tooth-supported Bridge
The two teeth immediately adjacent to the gap, the ‘abutments’ are prepared to receive fused crowns which support the missing tooth or ‘pontic’. This product is called a Bridge or Fixed Partial Denture (FPD).

Screw-retained Implant Supported Crown
In this situation the missing tooth is replaced with an osseointegrated implant which supports the new tooth or ‘crown’. Here the crown is screw retained, meaning the crown is screwed directly to the implant.

Cement-retained Implant Supported Crown
The missing tooth is replaced with an osseointegrated implant which supports the new tooth or ‘crown’. In this situation, the crown is retained by cement, meaning the crown is bonded or ‘cemented’ to an abutment. The abutment is directly fixed to the implant but acts as a middleman. This procedure allows for fixture in situations of difficult access or orientation.
